The camera sends audio and video wirelessly to the handheld monitor, which has a 2.5-Inch color LCD screen for crystal clear viewing of your camera’s video without need for any wiring. The small but powerful camera features automatically activating night vision which helps you see clearly at night and in dark situations. Keep watch over your belongings and loved ones without a bulky system or wiring with the PHOENIX1. The PHOENIX1’s Clear Signal Technology is an answer to many other monitoring systems that experience interference from other wireless signals. With the growing popularity of wireless devices brings interference issues and concerns over interception and privacy. This system transmits audio and video on a 900mHz frequency, creating a clear picture which will not interfere with any of the standardized 2.4gHz wireless networks, devices, and access points within your home or business. Both audio and video signals are able to pass through floors and walls within the 75 foot optimum range. The PHOENIX1 is as portable and versatile as you need it to be. though the camera(when absoultely no interference or cell phone activity is present and it always is when you need it most!) is decent enough day or night, the unit itself cannot hook to anything, you cannot record your videos when odd occurences come up and I’m not there, I’d like it recorded the unit comes with an A/V out/ male to RCA female but it doesn’t work in a TV the out jack, not the cord is at fault but it is totally useless except for monitoring current activity. I’ve got better things to do(like clean the toilet or watch grass grow) than play “security guard” at my abode. Rating: 3 / 5

The range is good and the video image quality is sufficient, but connecting it to a 9 volt battery is a joke. It lasts for an few hours at most. So connecting it outside is just about impossible unless you live in a really dry area where you could plug it in to an outside outlet. The AC adapter that comes with it is certainly not weather proof.

If you are looking purely for an indoor camera to monitor a room (baby, kids, etc.), this would work OK. I suppose it would work OK to monitor your pool or something like that outside if you could plug it in someplace away from weather and water.

I purchased two cameras wanting to monitor my front door and driveway. I have one aimed through a window near my front door. This works fine during the day, but at night the “night vision” reflects off the glass so I get no image. The other I was able to rig looking through a bedroom window towards my driveway, which is a well lit outside area. This one works pretty well even at night, but it doesn’t cover my front door, which is what I really wanted. I had to move this second camera a good distance from the window so the night vision wouldn’t reflect back.

I do think the manufacturer is being very deceptive when they call this an “Outdoor Surveillance Camera”. Sure, it will work outside with a 9 volt battery, but you would need to change the battery every few hours, which is not at all practice. If you are good with electronics you might be able to rig this some way to actually work outside. Rating: 2 / 5

While my husband was ill with dementia he needed constant supervision. As I also needed to take care of our home and myself I had great peace of mind knowing that I could keep the hand held moniter with me at all times so I always knew how he was doing. I highley recomend the Defender Phoenix 1, wireless video camera. Rating: 5 / 5

I wanted this for trying to catch our neighbors doing things in our yard but it is worthless at night. It has a light that pitifully tries to capture night vision but if it is more than a few feet out, don’t count on seeing it. Although it wasn’t its intended use… we use it now in our back yard to watch the kids playing and making sure they aren’t getting into too much trouble. We have alot of issues with interference, we have alot of electronics in the house but no more than others. it would be nice to have a stand for it because instead of mounting the camera, we move it around depending on what room we are in so we can see the kids. Some of the baby monitors I have seen do a better job of what we are using it for. Rating: 2 / 5

When I ordered this, I ordered it because of the good reviews. My wife and I were planning on using it for a baby monitor. We live in a 2 story older house. Not very big, but our daughters room is on the second floor. When the monitor is in the same room it was awesome. Very clear crisp picture and radiant color. However, once we moved more than 3 feet out of the room, the sound quality was very staticy and garbled and the video would come and go quality wise. The video was very unreliable and the static made it even harder to hear in the room. I wouldn’t suggest this product to anyone for monitoring purposes. I think the product would be great in a wired circuit security function, but not wireless. Rating: 2 / 5
